CW's Arrow Target Donuts

CW's Arrow returns tonight, and we're gearing up for our entire week of #DCWeek snacks! We chow down on these target donuts- easy to make and too fun to look at. Find the recipe below and get yourself a mouthful of marksmanship.

What you'll Need:

1 cup butter or 1 cup margarine, softened

1 1⁄2 cups sugar

2 eggs

3 cups flour

4 1⁄2 teaspoons baking powder

1⁄2 teaspoon salt

1 cup milk

What to Do:

  1. Blend 1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons butter with 1 cup of sugar.

  2. Add the eggs and mix well.

  3. Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt.

  4. Add to the butter and sugar mixture.

  5. Blend in the milk and mix together thoroughly. Add green food color or gel color for a rich, dark green. Gel color allows you to use less- so no metallic taste!

  6. Fill greased donut tins 2/3 full. We used Wilton's donut tray maker, but feel free to use any tin you like! You can also use a muffin tin and use a small cookie cutter to cut out a hole in the center.

  7. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 to 20 minutes, or until doughnuts are golden.

  8. Melt white chocolate or candy melts (See candy melting instructions on our other blog posts, or our cake pop videos!) and dip in a fluid, circular motion. You might need to dip twice so the green won't show through the chocolate.

For the Target: Put a handful of candy melts in a piping bag and melt in microwave for 30 seconds or so until fully melted. Wait 1-2 minutes and cut a small opening on the tip to pipe through. Draw red rings on the donuts from smaller to larger.

For the Arrows: We used green fondant, but have fun with it! You can use green candy, pretzel sticks 'glued' together with a bit of chocolate or melt some green candy melts and pipe out your own green chocolate arrows.

Assemble your arrow targets and eat! Munch on 'em whole watching tonight's return of CW's Arrow and throughout DCWeek- check back for more recipes this week while we celebrate with more DC sweets!

Watch CW's Arrow tonight at 8/7c, followed by Thursday's premiere of DC's Legends of Tomorrow!
